Let's keep it simple and get straight to the point. You really can't show people what emotions are supposed to look like. What may look like happiness, sadness and joy to you, may look different to another. What hurts you may not hurt another and vice versa. It's easy to tell someone not to be sad or discount the emotional experience, but it really doesn't seem to be the best way to help them get through.
Instead of attempting to place personal definitions on emotions, it seems to be more appropriate to help someone understand how to deal with what THEY FEEL. Of course it requires that the person desire the help.
